Public Art Tour: Boogie Down DC

The creation of go-go music has been traced back to one night in The Maverick Room when Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers decided to continue playing percussion between songs so that the crowd never stopped dancing. Through the Color the Curb grant program, artist Melissa Carter paid tribute to that historic night by ensuring that a full intersection never stops dancing.

An abstract limb, in motion, emerges from each curb. Within the grooving limbs are other, smaller dancing figures and excerpts from the sheet music for "Bustin’ Loose" by Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, one of the first go-go hits.
